Dog Trainer Shadowing Melbourne
If you are serious about becoming a dog trainer, there is no substitute for time in the field.
Reading about behaviour is one thing.
Watching it unfold in someone’s living room, with a real family, a real dog, and a real problem — that is something else entirely.
I offer shadowing placements for people who want to see what this work actually looks like from the inside.
Who Is It For?
Shadowing is open to anyone — whether you are currently studying the National Dog Trainers Federation course and need to log your practical hours, or you are simply considering a career in dog training and want to know what the day-to-day reality looks like before you commit.
If you are an NDTF student, I will sign off your hours at the end of each session.
What It Involves
You will come with me to every session across the week — in-home behavioural assessments, follow-up visits, and training sessions at various stages of the process.
You will watch how I conduct an assessment, how I identify the cause of a problem, how I build a program around a specific dog and family, and how I carry that through to results.
You will also see the side of this work that no classroom can teach you — how to read people, how to communicate what needs to change, and how to keep a family on track when life gets in the way.
What You Will Take Away
A week in the field covers more ground than most courses manage in months.
You will see how behavioural problems are assessed and understood, how programs are built and communicated, how training is executed across different breeds, histories, and temperaments, and how to conduct yourself in a way that actually works with people.
That last part, in my experience, is what separates the trainers who get results from the ones who don’t.
