Gundog Training Melbourne

Gundogs are some of the most capable, driven, and rewarding dogs to work with — and some of the most misunderstood when things go wrong. I am seeing more and more of them, and it is work I genuinely enjoy.

Whether you are dealing with a dog that won’t steady to shot, blows through commands in the field, or has developed habits that are making them difficult to work with, I can help. Equally, if you have a young dog and want to develop them properly from the ground up, getting the foundations right early makes everything that follows easier.

What I Can Help With

Every gundog is an individual, with its own instincts, its own drives, and its own training requirements. I work with all breeds and tailor everything to the dog in front of me. A one size fits all approach simply does not work with these dogs.

My focus is on the obedience and behavioural foundation that every gundog needs regardless of what they are being worked on. Dogs used for quail, duck, and deer are areas I work with regularly. I also work with gun shyness — a problem that can derail an otherwise capable dog and one that is very workable when approached correctly.

Skills I work on include:

  • Steady to shot
  • Reliable heeling
  • Return
  • Drive building and puppy development
  • Off-lead control — stopping and directional commands
  • Gun shyness

How It Works

I come to you. We start by getting to the bottom of what is and isn’t working, and I will explain not just what needs to change but why — because understanding the reasoning makes you a better handler, not just someone following instructions. That is ultimately the goal: to make you more effective with your dog in the field, not to make your dog dependent on me.

The relationship between a gundog and its handler is one of the most satisfying things in dog ownership when it is working well. If it isn’t, get in touch and let’s fix it.
