Training structure

Our goal is to establish and promote a proper relationship between you and your dog. Our methods are fast, effective, and very easy for you to learn. The techniques we use utilize your dog’s natural drives and instincts, so your dog will learn commands faster and easier than with less behaviour-based methods. Our approach also helps your dog respond, respect and bond to you more readily.

At the Victorian Dog Training Academy we use various training methods, including food luring, clicker training, and compulsion. We rarely use a single method on any one dog, but usually a combination of methods. Simply put, we will use the most appropriate technique to ensure your success.

One of the many questions that we are asked is; what type of training do you do?

The answer is really simple, we do whatever you wish! Our main focus is of course is on general obedience training but we have many other facets to our unique services. We also offer competition obedience training, tracking, scent detection and discrimination, search and rescue training and snake avoidance training just to name a few.

We are experienced with all breeds and really specialise in dogs that have failed at other training institutions. As canine behaviour experts, we also help many dog owners overcome simple to complex behavioural problems with their dogs.Another focus of ours are dogs that have come from shelters or pounds, as these quite often require specialist training methods and a completely different approach to the norm.

How many lessons will it take?

This is an impossible question to answer (especially without seeing the dog). But as we use behaviour based scientifically proven methods the training time required by us is significantly shorter than for outdated and often inferior training methodology.

What methods do you use?

At the Victorian Dog Training Academy we use a variety of methods to help you train your dog.We use the most modern thinking when it comes to resolving canine behaviour and training problems and this includes clicker training, food luring, positive reinforcement and compulsion. Simply put, we use the most appropriate method for you and your dog. As all dogs and people are different, different methods must be utilised to obtain the desired results. Far too often we have people tell us about how they failed at obedience classes. The fact is they didn’t fail; the methods in use failed them.

Session structure

We use a unique building block approach to our lesson structure. This is what makes our training methods so effective in teaching you and your dog. We constantly reinforce learned elements as we add to them, thus, building the strongest foundations.

At the Victorian Dog Training Academy we have developed our unparalleled structure which truly makes us 'the leaders of the pack". The fact is, we regularly succeed when others fail.

Victorian Dog Training Academy lessons are individually tailored to suit your requirements and ensure that your dog's behaviour is at an optimum level in all situations. Furthermore our training is conducted with real life distractions (shopping trolleys etc.) in real life situations and not just repeating a set pattern of commands on an oval in the middle of nowhere

Are you truly satisfied with your dog's current behaviour and level of training? The Victorian Dog Training Academy can help you achieve your dreams.

Imagine people interacting with your dog, and praising you for it's good behaviour!

How we achieve such great results.

All Victorian Dog Training Academy coaching is conducted on a one on one basis. Your personal instructor is there to help you achieve all you desire. Our unique half hour lesson format keeps the costs down but more importantly is in keeping with your dogs concentration span. Many clubs and trainers run classes on an hourly format, which is too long especially in the intial learning phase and most dogs can indeed become bored and loose the drive to learn. On the contrary, our coaching sessions promote good learning behaviours and keep your dog enthusiastic and positive. While your dog is eager, greater levels of learning and understanding are achieved.

Of course, as with any training, including dog training or even learning how to use a computer, constant practice is required. We will regularly set targets for you to achieve so that your training is enhanced and your dog maintains its focus. Remember, we are going to train you and your dog faster and better than anyone else with far better retention rates.

Once you have reached the desired standard with your initial period of one-on-one coaching and your dog demonstrates an ability to concentrate for longer periods of time, you will be offered a place in Victorian Dog Training Academy group classes.

Group Classes: Victorian Dog Training Academy group classes are offered to those who have completed basic training during their one-on-one sessions. The group classes offer attendees the opportunity to participate in more advanced areas of dog training, like agility and off lead training, with other trained dogs nearby.
